(The Armenian Genocide was a system in which 600 000-1million ethnic Armenians were
murdered. This saddening event occurred in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The
official start date was 24 April 1915 and it carried on to 1923. TheOttomanEmpire was founded
in 1299 and lasted for many centuries, it was situated in the Balkan region which is the Middle
East, Eastern Europe, and North Africa. The culprit for all these wrongdoings was the “young
Turks”. They were the reformist and nationalist party founded in the late 19th century. The main
leaders of this party were Talaat Pasha, Enver Pasha, Djemal Pasha, and Behaeddin Shakir
Bey. The victims were the people of Armenia. The reason why the people of Armenia were
massacred is that the young Turks saw the people of Armenia as threats. After all, they feared
they would help the Christian Russians against Turkey. And at the time many civilizations were
being run down by other bigger empires so the young Turks saw that as an opportunity. By 1914
the Armenian people were left with no leadership or governmental protection because the young
Turk's first plan was to take out all Armenian leaders and intellects which they did. The young
Turks now gained power over the defenseless Armenians and forced them to match to the
dessert without food nor water. Many were killed by mass shootings and torture. These
atrocities were recognized by the world but there was no immediate response to cease them.
The world war was deemed more important. Between 1915 and 1930, Near East Relief raised
$110 million ($1.7 billion adjusted for inflation) for refugees from the Ottoman Empire. The
British army advanced in 1917 and 1918 and liberated around 100,000 to 150,000 Armenians
working for the Ottoman military under abysmal conditions. To this day the Republic of Turkey
which was most of the Ottoman empire dismisses this as genocide and thus hinders Turkey
from the European Union. In 2019, France commemorated the genocide for the first time, with
President Emmanuel Macron designating April 24 "a national day of remembrance of the
Armenian genocide," fulfilling a campaign promise. On April 24, 2021, US President Joe Biden
fulfilled a campaign promise by recognizing the genocide. On 24th April many people around
the world commemorate this )
