1. In your own words, explain why “the colonial government in Haiti introduced apartheid style
legislation which discriminated against free coloured and black people in order to keep them in
their place”.
a. Was this a justified move? Briefly explain your stance.
Whites were particularly concerned about the emergence of free blacks and coloureds since the
latter group's economic strength weakened the political authority, social privilege, privileges, and
advantages that affluent and powerful individuals in society had, as well as racial identity. As a result,
free coloureds and blacks are progressively growing stronger. The Colonial administration enacted
apartheid-style legislation, which was a series of rules issued by a parliament and discriminated
against free coloureds and blacks in order to keep them in their place. This cannot be justified since it
must be acknowledged from the start that apartheid was a one-of-a-kind situation of blatant racism.
Therefore I do not feel that this is acceptable in any manner.
