Question ONE
Text A
Students with disabilities have not been fully welcomed in higher education in spite of litigation,
court cases, and positive shifts in public perceptions. The transition from high school to college
is challenging for students without disabilities. Students with disabilities often get overlooked by
their institution and overwhelmed during this transition, contributing to an achievement gap for
these students.

Instruction: With reference to text A above, should people with special needs (disabilities) be
treated the same way as people without any special needs (disabilities)? AGREE or DISAGREE
with the above statement and provide THREE arguments to support your stance.
EQUAL TREATMENT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A
NECESSITY FOR EQUITY
Thesis Statement: People with disabilities should be treated equally in higher education
settings, as denying them equitable treatment perpetuates systemic barriers and worsen the
achievement gap.
In modern society, the discussion surrounding the treatment of individuals with disabilities in
higher education has gained significant traction. Despite advancements in legislation and
shifting societal attitudes, students with disabilities still face myriad challenges during their
transition from high school to college. The notion of whether individuals with disabilities
should be treated the same way as those without disabilities in higher education is a topic of
considerable debate. My essay contends that equal treatment for students with disabilities is
imperative for fostering inclusivity, promoting academic success, and upholding principles of
equity.
