South Africa has various network providers, including Cell C, Vodacom, and MTN,
although MTN is Africa's top network provider. MTN was founded in South Africa at
the dawn of democracy in 1994 as a transformation pioneer. Since then, they have
expanded by investing in advanced communication infrastructure, inventing new
technologies, and using the talents of our varied workforce to now provide services to
communities throughout Africa and the Middle East.


1. Concept of Stakeholders
Stakeholders are individuals or groups who have an interest in the activities and
performance of an organization. They can significantly impact or be impacted by the
organization's actions, objectives and policies. Stakeholders include suppliers,
consumers and employees. They have interest in how MTN as an organisation
conducts its operation as decisions taken by the organisation affects them directly or
indirectly. Stake holders are subdivided into two views which are the broader view
and the narrow view.


Narrow and Broader View of Stakeholders
Narrow view of stakeholders refers to stakeholders that are typically limited to those
directly involved in the organization, such as employees, management, customers,
suppliers and shareholders. Narrow view of stakeholders refers to those that are
highly affected by the policies implemented by MTN as an organisation. Broader
view of stakeholders looks at stakeholders in a broader sense. Broader view of
stakeholders are less affected by the policies that are implemented by MTN as an
organisation. These stakeholders have interest in how the organisation operates but
are no involved in the day to day running of it. These stakeholders encompass a wider
range of individuals and groups, including the local community, government, non-
governmental organizations and the environment.


Examples of Stakeholders and how MTN adds value to these stakeholders
Employees
These are people that work for MTN on a daily basis, these include MTN call center
agents, technicians amongst others. MTN adds value to its employees by providing

, training and development opportunities, providing fair compensation, providing
promotion opportunities, fair working conditions and a safe working environment.


Customers
Customers are consumers of the products and services produced and provided by
MTN. MTN adds value to its customers by offering reliable and innovative
telecommunications services, addressing their needs, ensuring data privacy and
security. This allows customers to be able to conduct business transactions online and
sell their products on online platforms, do research on the internet, communicate and
be able to access various things offered by the internet using safe and secure
telecommunications network.


Suppliers
Supplies are group of companies that provide MTN with the stock and materials that
enable MTN to be able to provide it customers with goods and services. MTN adds
value to its suppliers by maintaining fair and transparent business relationships,
supporting their growth, ensuring that its suppliers are able to continuously produce
goods for MTN as a reliable customer ensuring continued sales, potential for
expansion, reliable income from sells and promoting ethical sourcing practices.


Local Communities
Local communities encompasses areas in which MTN operates in of which in South
Africa, it covers almost all the parts of the country. Local communities in the country
benefit a from MTN through various strategies that are implemented by the
organisation such as offering learnerships and internship to community members.
MTN adds value to local communities through corporate social responsibility
initiatives such as offering students who excel in their studies scholarship, bursaries
and hosting sporting tournament for schools such as soccer tournaments,
infrastructure development, job creation, contributing to economic and social
development.


Shareholders
Shareholders are part owners of MTN, they own a shares at the organisation. These
