,Introduction

Personal experience with gaming
My early experiences with gaming revolved around my Nintendo DS, where I delved into the worlds
of Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. In addition to these exciting games, I also did some lifestyle and
grooming games. For example, I played Nintendogs where I adopted a dog and took care of it.
Another kind of game I liked to play was BrainTraining. This game was not only entertaining but also
educating, enhancing my math and language skills in a playful manner.

Besides Nintendo, I played various games on the Wii through the television. One of those games is
Just Dance. By imitating the dance as best as possible, you earn the most points.
Moreover, Wii Fit introduced me to various virtual sport challenges, such as bowling, tennis or
running. Each game brought a good combination of physical activity and digital entertainment.
These games were helpful for promoting healthy habits (Joo, 2015).

In addition to digital games, I like to play classic board games and card games. Games like Monopoly,
Cluedo or Qwix challenge my strategic thinking. Every kind of game not only entertained me, but
also taught me valuable skills.

Motivation & Expectations
The game "Can you save the world?" appeals to me, because it reminds me of the game Super Mario
Bros. During the game Super Mario Bros, I tried to collect as many coins as possible, jump over
things and get through the game as fast as possible. In the game "Can you save the world?” I see
some similar elements, like collecting face masks and avoiding people with the coronavirus. The
blend of and a new actual challenge makes me eager to experience it.

Besides that it reminds me of the game Super Mario Bross, I anticipate a thrilling game where the
primary objective is to navigate through levels as fast as possible. I expect the game to feature
elements where your character can suffer setbacks or even 'die’, adding an element of challenge and
excitement to the gameplay. Besides having a serious purpose, the game also seems like a fun game
to play.

This serious game will teach players a bit about the coronavirus, and I am very curious to see how it
will turn out. Research on the effectiveness of a serious game versus online lectures for improving
medical students' COVID-19 knowledge found that the game-based computer application scored
significantly higher in knowledge retention (Hu et al., 2021).

, Game Analysis

In the virtual game "Can You Save the World?", players need to navigate themselves through a city in
the middle of a global pandemic. In this innovative game, the challenges of the real world are
cleverly combined. It mixes the urgency of social distancing with the excitement of gaming, creating
an experience that is both relevant and engaging.

Set in a bustling city, the game challenges players to navigate through the streets while adhering to
social distancing guidelines, reflecting the real-life challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This game's unique design elements create an immersive experience, combining a relevant social
message with engaging gameplay.

Rules
Players need to use arrow keys to cross the infected city safely. The main rule requires maintaining a
safe distance from others. Some of the other characters stay in one place, but others move. When
you get too close to an infected person, you lose a life. However, every time you pass an infected
person, you save an extra life of someone else. The operational rules involve collecting masks and
strategically placing them at checkpoints to gain extra lives. Power-ups, which provide special
abilities, help you to survive the game.

There are also infected cyclists in the game, which you have to watch out for. They drive extra fast
and across the street, so you have to move aside in time. You have to be extra careful of sneezing
people, because these place a contaminated line in the game. Collect groceries to earn extra powers,
like a new life or speed. There are trees and benches in the streets that you cannot pass through, so
you have to be careful of these as well.

The passage of time in this game is continuous and real-time. This means that the game progresses
at a consistent pace regardless of the player's actions (Igarzábal, 2020). As players navigate through
the city, they face challenges and obstacles that they must overcome to advance. The game's
difficulty increases as players progress, introducing more infected characters, faster-moving
elements, and additional obstacles.
