Introduction and rational of my VM display

My group decided to do summer clothing display due to several factors. First because of the time of
the year – it is late spring and the beginning of the summer. The weather have been sunny and
warm, this is the best time to start advertising the summer fashion range. Second the college has
provided mannequins we can use to display our clothing, which makes it convenient and logical to
choose this type of display. We had a group discussion in which we decided that our summer
clothing display will represent a summer picnic scene. They style we are going for is modern/retro,
as we are focussing on simplicity and class but at the same time, we are going to use bright and fresh
colours. To create this type of atmosphere there will be picnic basket with fruits and French
baguette as well as a backdrop with green grass and clear blue sky. The group was thinking of the
best brand name and I came up with Retro Class, and after a discussion it was decided to go with this
name.

Detailed plan

Research
First I started with a research on what type of clothes are popular for this
season. I looked at shops like New Look, Next and H&M to get a feel of the
summer clothing range. To better visualise the style we are going for I
created a brainstorm. I went on the internet and searched for pictures
that suite best the style I’m going for. I also went out around
Loughborough looking at different summer displays to get better ideas. I
find out that simple colours like, white, blue and soft variation of warm
colours are really popular this summer. This really helped me to choose
the right clothes for this display. After the style was decided I researched
the type of pricing that is most relevant to this sector. My research found
out that most similar brands like New Look, M&H and Primark use the odd
pricing strategy, as customers recognise this price lower than the even
pricing.
I also researched ways to improve the atmosphere and from this I came up with the idea to
paly relaxing nature sounds music in the display. This will help the customers relax and feel
more summer, which is shown to increase sales. For this purpose I will bring my portable
speaker.
