PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM PNS, AND THE SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM SNS. - AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM (ANS) Allows us to "rest and digest". Saves energy. Heart rate decreases. - Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) Body releases Cortisol in the body. Provides ability to either "FLIGHT OR FIGHT". - Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) Fine. Complex. Gross - Motor Skill Classifications 3 Hand/Eye coordination and hand dexterity. When heart rate reaches approximately 115 beats per minute, vasoconstriction in the fingers and hands effects the dexterity required to perform Fine Motor Skills. - Fine Motor Skills Involves a series of muscle groups. Example, shooting stance. At approximately 145 beats per minute, Complex Motor Skills begin to deteriorate. - Complex Motor Skills Involves large muscle groups. Aerobic System AS. - The human body relies on three energy systems. Small energy bundles stored in the muscles. Used during high energy and high strength activities. Burns out after 10 to 15 seconds. - ATP / PC System Once the ATP System has been depleted, the LAS will act as an afterburner fuel. Provides about 45 seconds or intermediate strength and endurance. - Lactic Acid System LAS Around 90 seconds into a confrontation, the LAS is depleted and the AS becomes the FINAL AND DOMINATE fuel system. Can burn for long periods of time, depending on officer's cardio / respiratory conditioning. - Aerobic System AS 1. Tactical Acceptability. 2. Legal Acceptability. 3. Refuses to move or comply. - Passive Resistance Any action by subject that attempts to prevent an officer from gaining control or the subject.
