The video begins with explaining us about the first thought that comes in mind of
different people when they hear the word “reading”. It depends upon the person
and his/her interest in reading that’s why some people find it boring while some
love to read books.
She refers to Harper lee’s book ‘to kill a mocking bird’ in which a character told
that to understand a person we have to step into their shoes and in fact reading
helps to connect with the characters of the story in the book.
I agree upon the fact that reading books written by different authors it will help
to explore new culture, like if we read the stories written by Indian writers we
can get a glimpse of Indian cultures.
I like how the video help of to notice the significance of reading books, as
reading creates better opportunity by helping us to improve our vocabulary,
obtaining better communication skills, increasing our imagination power. The
best thing about this video is it explains the beauty of reading and how it
encourages a person to imagine and think beyond reality.
If I’m given a chance to recreate this video (benefits of reading) I will start with a
few lines by George RR Martin “A reader lives a thousand lives
before he dies . . The man who never reads lives only one.”
This line shows the beauty of reading and the connection between life and
reading. A person, who likes to read books every single day like me, understands
how we connect with a fictional character, their emotions and feelings. As the girl
in the video relates with the character in Catherine Stokett’s book ‘The help’ as
the protagonist faces racism. I agree that reading build community encourages
living life, expanding vocabulary but there are some more things I would include
from my experiences.
Reading gives life lessons:
In Arthshastra by great Indian polymath, he wrote that a person should not be
too honest, when I read these lines by such a knowledgeable person the first
reaction was like “oh gosh! Why?” but later he explained this by relating a
person with tree.
He explains it as Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first.
Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first. (Kajari Goswami,

Reading improves imagination power:sss
Reading a Fictional book takes me to another world. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray
Bradbury with an idea of future society where books are forbidden, a “fireman”
whose job is the burning of books, takes a book and gets addicted to reading.
Reading stimulates mental wellness:
