📓
Appreciation for Poems
1. Mamang Dai, a writer and a poet
Small Towns and from North-east India. She writes
in english as well as Adi
Rivers language. It is a nature poem.
She adores the lively nature
around her hometown but she
also laments the destruction of
the nature caused in the name of
development
2. “Mortality, Life vs Death, Eternity, Nature, and Spirituality”. The souls of
the beloved ones always continue to dwell in the natural elements around.
Conserve the nature and go for sustainable development of small towns on
the banks of the rivers. She also urges for peace and to stop the violence
mostly due to terrorism and communal riots in North-East India.
3. The poem is written in free verse. There’s no rhyme scheme.
4. The poet has used poetic devices like
Alliteration, Antithesis, Inversion, Metaphor, Onomatopoeia, Personification,
Repetition,
Simile, and Transferred Epithet to beautify the poem.
Appreciation for Poems 1
, 5. The extensive use of Personification can be seen in the human qualities
attributed to the river “the river has a soul”, “it holds its breath” and “the
river knows”. She has expressed anxiety at the development in her small
towns.
6. The main message of the poem is the conveying of the poet’s mixed
feelings about nature
and the small towns which lie by the river. While the poet uses nature to
convey positivity., she looks upon the small towns as a symbol of death,
since they have grown
at the cost of nature.
7. The poem is an interesting read and I like it for its curious
mix of the positive and the negative aspects.
1. George Byron, also ‘Lord Byron’,

Short lyrical poem celebrating
Beauty Female beauty. Although the
poem is thought to be a love
poem, the poet never declares
his love for this unnamed

the first line of the poem
2. “Beauty and Harmony” a balance between light and dark is her beauty,
“Inner v/s Outer Beauty” The title ‘She walks in beauty’ doesn’t mean that
the woman is walking beautifully or that she is simply beautiful. It says that
she walks “in beauty”, meaning that beauty surrounds her, making her
magnificent.
