A noun phrase - Answer-One of the five types of phrase in English that typically forms the subject, object or complement of a clause. e.g. The whole town's talking. Structure: pre-modification (optional) - head - post-modification (optional). e.g. Those magnificent men in their flying machines. The structure of noun phrases differs from language to language, thus errors like eg. It was a film very interesting. An intransitive verb - Answer-a verb that does NOT take a direct object. Intransitive verbs cannot be made passive. e.g. to dream, to remain. Some verbs can be used both transitively and intransitively, they are called ergative. e.g. melt A dynamic verb - Answer-A verb that refers to actions and events. Contrasts with stative verbs. A non-finite verb form - Answer-Has no person, number or tense. e.g. Before working for his uncle, Brad used to work for his father. A functional exponent - Answer-A functional syllabus is a syllabus based around a list of language functions such as asking for information, making requests, greeting people, making, accepting and refusing invitations. Each function is realized by one or more functional exponents. So, functionalexponents for the function of making requests include Can you...? Could you...? Would you mind ...ing? A gerund - Answer-is a present participle verb form used as a noun
