Stratum Lucidum The layer of epidermis immediately under the stratum corneum in the skin of the palms and soles. Stratum Granulosum Granular layer of the epidermis contaiming an accumulation of keratohyalin. Stratum Spinosum Prickly layer that is a bonding and transitional layer between the Stratum Granulosum and the Stratum Germinativum. Stratum Germinativum Basal layer; deepest epidermal layer firmly attached to dermis. Also contains Markels disks or tactile disks. Papillary Layer Directly beneath the epidermis. Contains tactile corpusles that assist with the sence of touch. Reticular Layer Contains sebaceous glands, sweat glands, fat cells, large blood vessels, lymph vessels, hair folicles, and nerve endings. Subcutaniouse Layer Gives smoothness and contour to the body and provides a reservoir for fuel and energy.
