Hoorcollege week 4: Veroudering hart
• Maintain homeostasis:
– Uptake and transport of oxygen
– Excreton of carbon dioxide
– Transport of nutrients
– Protect against blood loss
– Protect against infectons
– Maintain body temperature
– Maintain fuid balance
Veranderingen hart wanneer je ouder wordt:
- Hartspier gaat verbindweefselen
Hart:
-Thickening of the aorta and other major vessel walls
-Thickening of lef ventricle and atrium
- Thickening and fragmentaton of tunica intma of arteries
-Thickening Tunica intma leads to narrowing of arteries;
-Narrowing arteries require an increased blood pressure to assure normal blood supply
-Increased blood pressure leads to increased actvity of the lef ventricle
-The lef ventricle becomes hypertrophic
, -Reduced elastcity of older arteries lead to a decreased diameter during systole
-A decreased diameter of the main arteries increases the blood fow
-This is only possible if the blood pressure increases:
-Lef ventricle hypertrophy
-Reduced responsiveness of smaller arteries and arterioles to neurological and/or humoral
signals during physical actvites.
-Blood pressure rises during physical exerton
-Increased workload of lef ventricle
-May lead to hypertrophy
-In elderly persons arteries and arterioles sufer from atherosis: faay deposits.
-Narrowing arteries
-Higher blood pressure
-Lef ventricle hypertrophy
In alle gevallen:
• Increased systolic blood pressure leads to:
- A greater load on the heart due to:
- Increased statc contracton efort of the heart muscle;
- It requires a higher intra ventricular pressure before the aorta valve opens up and
the blood fow into the aorta starts
Hartslag:
-The maximum HR decreases with age
-Exercise training does not afect this
-Classical idea: 220 bpm – Age in years
-Beaer: in persons over 00 years of age: 208 – 0.7 x age in years
