Respirations may be shallow due to diaphragmatic irritation PANCREATITIS: Amylase/Lipase Ordered in pancreatitis Amylase is the most frequently ordered test, which rises within 6 to 12 hours of onset of pain and peaks around 24 hours and returns to normal within 3 to 7 days Amylase and lipase amounts are generally 3 times the normal amount during acute pancreatitis and are the most common laboratory markers used to establish a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis
