1.1 From what I have learned is that critical reading involves using logical and rhetorical skills. The best
reading techniques are the SQ3R technique. They include;
Survey: Teaching my learners this will help my learners to have a quick idea of the content and structure
of the reading, so as to prepare their minds.
Question: I will prepare questions for my learners to review as they read the material.
Read: In this step, I will teach my learners to scan or actively read the text.
Recite: Now my learners will be required back and answer those questions they have created. I will make
sure what they read makes sense to them, and that they understand how they are required to answer
their questions.
Review: I will teach my learners how to make mental notes or say aloud what they have learned, and
train them to be able to review the text without checking their notes.
Skimming: I will give my learners a general idea of the text so that they can skim the text before going for
further reading.
