What happens at each stage of the graph

In the graph for steric acid, at point 1, the steric acid was melting and going from solid to liquid, this
means that the molecules are able to move around more and reach higher velocities than before,
they are also less stuck together and are spreading out a bit more. However, this is due to the
molecules moving apart because the velocity of the molecules was getting higher, which meant that
the intermolecular forces couldn’t pull the molecules back into a fixed position. At this point the
forces between the molecules (Intermolecular forces) are weakening. At point 2, the steric acid was
still a liquid so the molecules are just as loose as before, the intermolecular forces aren’t any
stronger or weaker, and they can move just as much and just as fast as at point 1. They are also just
as spread out as before. In between point 2 and point 3, the steric acid had begun freezing, going
from liquid to solid, this means that the molecules are coming back together to where they cant
move very fast or much at all, the intermolecular forces are regaining their strength. The molecules
are getting closer together again. This happens because the velocity of the molecules was slowing
down, so the intermolecular forces were able to overpower the velocity of the molecules and then
pull the molecules into a fixed position. After point 3, the steric acid was a solid again, meaning that
the molecules couldn’t move very fast, or at all as the molecules are very close together and can’t
really move. The intermolecular forces are just as strong as they were before we started melting the
steric acid.
