Consider the current healthcare delivery models and practice settings. Reflect on how
nursing practice is transforming in response to the current demands of the healthcare
system and answer one of the following questions:
1. What differentiates the practice of a master's-prepared nurse compared to that of
a baccalaureate-prepared nurse?
2. What is the value of a master's degree in nursing?
3. What do you consider to be the most essential professional competency for a
master's-prepared nurse practicing in the 21st century?

Framework. Use at least one outside scholarly article to support your position. Provide
an example to illustrate an application to professional practice.
In the current healthcare world, both master’s prepared and baccalaureate-prepared nurses play a
crucial role in upholding important healthcare standards and responsibilities. While both uphold
such responsibilities, there is a clear and defined difference between the two. Both types of
nursing involve interactive patient care, however the practice of a master’s prepared nurse
involves more research and application of theory to practice. Critical thinking is an attribute
every nurse strives to implement; however, the master’s level nurse has a duty to actively
implement such critical thinking into the improvement and growth of nursing as an industry. The
master’s-prepared nurse takes on a new level of leadership and demands a certain level of respect
within their work field. The master’s-prepared nurse should understand that their practice will
include implementing and transitioning research from their studies into the workplace setting.
This specifically is one of the larger differences between masters and baccalaureate-prepared
nurses. Research and implementation of such research is included into the scope of practice upon
completion of masters-leveled studies. However, beyond just up and coming research, the
master’s prepared nurse has a duty to implement other factors into the workplace. According to
modern literature, “The master’s-prepared nurse of the future must be proficient in the
development and management of accountable care systems using state-of-the-art technology”
(Abamohamadi, Fakhr-Movahedi, Soleimani, & Emadi, 2017). Within the practice of the
master’s-prepared nurse, they will have the duty of staying up to date on modern advances within
the medical technology world and then trying their best to implement such technology into their
personal workplace. Through this practice, nursing as a whole will stay relevant within the
modern workforce.
One of the most obvious values of a master’s degree in nursing is the advancement of
knowledge. This knowledge will benefit any nurse both professionally and personally. It can
become extremely easy to slip into complacency as one ages in their career. However, a truly
dedicated nurse will refuse to slip into a rhythm of complacency and constantly strive to be the
