People as organisational resources
People in an Organisation should be treated like all the other resources which means just being used for
a purpose which for ASDA will mean using the staff to make sales to the customers within a business and
when they are no longer needed they may be made redundant. However this is difficult because humans
have feelings and they will need to be dealt with in a way where feelings will not be affected when
decisions are made for example if an employee in ASDA is no longer needed instead of making them
redundant they could be offered another role within the business.
Skill sets
Skill sets are skills that are needed for one to do their job efficiently, as different type of jobs will require
different type of skills for example if a job is difficult this job will need high level of training, education
and skills in order for the job to be done properly such as the IT team in ASDA as they ensure the
technology is running correctly at always. There are also jobs where an low amount of training is need
and this job is usually low skilled. ASDA will use skill sets to decide if they want to recruit the potential
employee or if training can help the potential employee to gain the skills needed in the amount of time
provided. Example of these skills will be communication skills which Is a generic skills that can be used in
any type of job, time management and ability to use the till and this skill can only be used in jobs which
require it.
Skill acquisition
Skill acquisition is essential because if an employee was to leave ASDA; ASDA will have other employees
who are trained to do the same job which means there will not be a problem and the job will still get
done. Also employees gaining skills motivates them to do their job as they will know how to do it and it
also makes the employee more useful with the skills they can do their job well. Also skills can be
acquired by training and also shadowing which will give the employee more confidence as they can see
someone else doing what they will have to do.
Skills audit
Skill audit is when a business such as ASDA will assess the skills their existing employees have and if the
skills can be used in terms of the organisations new aims which could be to make a higher profit than the
previous year. Also the existing employees could already have the skills the business is looking for but
they do not need the skills for their current job such as IT skills for till work and the business could use
these employees instead of recruiting new staff. ASDA may also do skill audits often to see the skill level
within the business and this will allow them to know how many staff are in training and who are fully
trained. Skill audits gives employees the opportunity to be able to work in more than one job within the
business if they have the skills needed and also if the business wanted to carry out a project they can use
skill audit to identify the employees with the skills needed and qualifications needed to carry out the
project and software packages can help with this.
