GENERAL MANAGER

- The General Manager operates at TOP Management level,
the Functional Managers (Admin manager, Purchasing
manager, Production manager, etc.) operate at MIDDLE
Management level, while Supervisors operate at LOWER level
management.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INTRAPRENEURSHIP:
ENTREPRENEUR:
- Person who combines the three factors of production
(capital, labour, and raw materials) to start a new business.
- See an opportunity in the market, assumes the risk of starting
a new business / investing their capital to make a profit.
- When they start, will operate at TOP level management.
INTRAPRENEUR:
- Aka “inside entrepreneur”, as they work within a business and
use entrepreneurial qualities combined with business’
resources to transform innovative ideas into profit.
- Don’t have to operate at TOP management but will often
implement a new and profitable idea within their
department with approval of their manager.
Qualities:
1. Identify an opportunity + takes risks to reap rewards.
2. Understand target market and use business scanning tools.
3. Understand LSM (Living Standards Measure) and make
necessary changes to satisfy their customers’ needs.
, 4. Opportunist and must be able to anticipate market trends,
identify the positives, and use these to the businesses
advantage.
5. Committed and perseverant
6. Creative and innovative with a differentiation strategy.
7. Ability to prepare and implement plan while being realistic
and proactive by developing a contingency plan.
8. Be a leader, have the ability to motivate others to buy into
the plan.
9. Ability to evaluate achievements.
10. Ability to obtain and co-ordinate resources to execute
the plan.
11. Motivational and Convincing
12. Evaluate achievements and progress to initiate correct
measures if needed.

LEADERSHIP V MANAGEMENT:
MANAGER: Appointed in a position of authority which enables
them to insist people doing as they say.
LEADER: Expertise to make people aware of advantages of
pursuing certain courses of action, creating a desire for people to
follow them in achieving a goal.
- For a manager to be successful, they must be a leader, they
can achieve this by developing entrepreneurial qualities.
