Edward

- Many saw his age (came to the throne at 9) as a problem as he would not be able to lead his
army to war and would be able to be easily multiplied
- Henry wanted him to have a balanced regency council however this did not happen as
somerset did not want that for Edward
- Western rebellion
- Prayer book rebellion – Was against the prayer book
- Somerset made slow changes to the religious changes which resulted in unrest and rebellion.
- Edward named Lady Jane greys sons as his successor at first but then added Lady Jane grey
as none of her sons were ready to be able to be a successor when he was dying
- Northumberland had somerset executed which caused unrest
- Anti-somerset faction

Mary

- Due to her being a woman this was seen as a problem as she would have to marry and obey
he husband she marries, she would not be able to lead an army into war and people thought
she would be able to be controlled easily
- She had two people who she was to marry: Philip II of spain and Edward Courtnay. She
chooses Philip.
- People were against Philip as England was xenophobic which meant that they did not want
Spaniards to take over or for the country to go to war due to Philip
- People were also against Edward as they believed it gave his family to much power in court
- Wyatt Rebellion – This was supposedly a rebellion against the marriage however it is
believed it could have been religiously motivated to as most were protestants however, they
would not have gained so much support If they went with that
