- Wanting to be accepted into social norms/ avoid rejection
- Emotional reason for conforming
- Often lead to compliance/identification
- Usually occurs around strangers and close friends as you don’t want to be kicked out the
group
Informational social influence (ISI)
- Believe someone else has better information so conform to be correct/ need to be right
- Cognitive/ thought based reason for conforming
- Leads to internalisation
- Usually occurs around experts
