Jaundice is yellowish discolouration of the skin, sclera (elastin) and mucous membranes due
hyperbilirubinemia and deposition of bile pigments
Most often caused by liver and gallbladder issues
It is usually detectable clinically, when the plasma bilirubin exceeds 50umol/L
Jaundice is not a disease, but rather a sign that can occur in many different diseases
