SHSAT ELA- fiction & poetry question n answers graded A+
SHSAT ELA- fiction & poetryTone - correct answer Tone is an attitude, such as humorous, concerned, or sad, that a writer chooses to show to reader using specific words and phrases. Questions about tone will ask how a word, phrase, or sentence affects the tone of the passage. When answering these questions, first identify the tone by locating keywords throughout the passage. If the author uses words such as "delightful", "joy", and "smiling," the tone is happy. If the author chooses words such as "terror," "distress," and "dread," the tone is fearful. Once you have pinpointed the tone, you select the answer choice that best matches it. Theme - correct answer The theme of a passage is the overall idea, moral, or lesson the author wants the readers to understand. An SHSAT Reading Comprehension question may ask, "How does the conversation in paragraphs 4-6 contribute to the development of the theme?"
