Input-Process-Output diagrams describe:

2. Activities/Processes
3. Outputs
System
An integrated set of elements, subsystems, or assemblies that accomplish a defined
objective. Represented by the external and internal attributes, and the interrelationships
between them.
Operating Environment or Context
Collection of elements that specifically do not belong to the system but do interact with
the system.
System Boundary
"Line of Demarcation". Defines what belongs to the system and what does not.
System Architecture
The fundamental concepts or properties of a system in its environment embodied in its
elements, relationships, design and evolution.
Attribute
An observable characteristic or property of the system. Represented by variables.
Variable
A symbol or name that identifies an attribute.
System State
When the values assigned to its attributes are remain constant or steady for a
meaningful period of time.
Dynamic Behavior
The time evolution of the system state.
Atomic element
Cannot be further decomposed. A system element that needs only a black box
representation to capture its requirements and confidently specify its real-world solution.
(i.e. make, buy, or reuse).
