Eric Ngugi Unit 16 D2 Angelina
Human resources management
In this assignment I am going to assess the importance of measuring and managing
employee performance at work.
Importance of managing and measuring
There are many reasons as to why businesses manage and measure the performance of
their employees. The first importance I am going to discuss is safety.
Safety (risk assessment) KFC
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advises employers to follow five steps when carrying
out a workplace risk assessment: Step 1: Identify hazards, i.e. anything that may cause harm.
Employers have a duty to assess the health and safety risks faced by their workers.
In KFC, they take their safety very seriously as they are a food company. The health and
safety of their customers is their number one priority and therefore managing how clean
their stores, cooking are. It is vital for them
One of the main risks that KFC have to avoid is risks such as cross contamination. Cross
contamination is the process by which bacteria or other microorganisms are unintentionally
transferred from one substance or object to another, with harmful effect. As cross
contamination is usually unintentional, if they are able to avoid this, then they are bound to
be able to avoid any other risk.
As this is all about avoiding risks, she should have banners on the windows about food
allergies warning customers not to buy the products if they are going to put themselves at
risk. This is an example of how risk can be managed and prevented.
The employees at KFC are trained by the employers about food hygiene. This can be either
by a formal programme such as on the job training or self-study which is informal. Them
measuring and keep retraining after every 2 months in order to make sure they remember
they use the correct procedure.
The benefit for passing the safety and risk assessment is that their food rating will improve
to a more favourable number of which the customers are going to like. This rating is usually
4 out of 5 or the 5.
The consequences of them failing the safety and risk assessment is that their store ratings
will not increase and therefore have a lower valuation to the customers. The effect this will
have on the customers is that they will not want to eat from that store again. Then the effect
this will have on the store is that their profits level will decrease and not make a lot of
money.
