Straighterline Anatomy and Physiology 2 Lab BIO202L Lab 14 The Urinary System Worksheet 2023
1. What is the function of the ureter? The function of the ureter is to transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder. 2. Compare and contrast the male and female urethra. The male and female urethra have distinct anatomical and functional differences. In males, the urethra is longer and serves a dual purpose as it is involved in both urinary and reproductive functions. It carries urine from the bladder to the external urethral meatus, and it also serves as the passageway for semen during ejaculation. On the other hand, the female urethra is shorter and solely functions to transport urine from the bladder to the outside of the body through the external urethral meatus. Another significant difference is the location of the urethral opening. In males, the urethral meatus is located at the tip of the penis, while in females, it is situated between the clitoris and the vaginal opening. Due to the male urethra's longer length, it is generally more susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTIs) compared to the female urethra. Overall, these differences in anatomy and function between the male and female urethra are related to their roles in the respective reproductive and urinary systems.
