Eliot Hunter (ID: 16002495) Assignment C Unit 01 CESIT

Evaluate interpersonal and written
communications techniques

During this unit (01 CESIT), I’ve had a number of verbal exchanges and I’ve used clarity of speech,
kept calm and focused with confidence throughout presenting. When first presenting a verbal
exchange, the first few minutes are extremely important as first impressions have the most impact
on the audience. It is important to use eye contact and having a friendly smile during a presentation.
It is important because it highlights a good first impression. Intonation is another good thing to have
during a presentation because it shows that expressions and thoughts go into the words that are
being spoken.

Body language is another key interpersonal technique that should be used. In my presentations, I
was able to further give a positive attitude through the use of the language that my body spoke. It is
common that people are more engaged by what they see than what they hear so I chose to show the
audience how to fit the computer parts instead of just describing them in my presentation.

When communicating ideas and work through written work, I made sure I didn’t include any smileys
or emoticons as it displays a more casual layout and that’s not intended. However, when sending an
email to another student, it shows that you aren’t being deadly serious and it can add a fun element
to the environment. Using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation throughout my work has been
used because it ensures and shows that I have understood everything I have written in my work.
Throughout my other units that I have done, I have been provided with assignment briefs, this
enables me to understand how to write a particular piece of work and to keep it at a decent
standard. In every piece of work that I have handed in, I made sure I have a good structure in it as it
allows people reading my work to follow it easily. An example of this is use the grading criteria
headings as my titles for each piece of work so people can easily locate different tasks to mark it
quickly and effectively.

When handing in written work for marking, I made sure that it has been proof-read beforehand as it
minimises handing in correct information or any unnecessary spelling, grammar and punctuation
mistakes. When researching different tasks in a unit, I always make sure to research a topic in depth
so my knowledge is extended about that certain topic.

When communicating with other students in group work, I made sure that I let my ‘team’ know what
my thoughts were on the subject such as reviewing each other’s personal development plan. The
positive attitude can be helpful and constructive to another student’s work, giving them more ideas.
When reading through another student’s comments about my work, I made sure that I took them
into consideration as it shows appreciation towards them.

Overall, I think I made a good use of interpersonal and written communications techniques
throughout all of my units that I have completed. It has helped me complete work quickly and
effectively, giving me time to make further improvements if needed. And when presentations are
concerned, I think I can improve on my descriptions as I tend to be vague on most things.
