I hope that following evidence-based practice and research will allow me to make a true difference in the lives of entire communities by taking my role and making it just as much about healing as it about preventative care. I hope that I can provide information that will affect entire communities in a healthier lifestyle. Week 2 What do you most look forward to in your new role as an NP? What concerns do you have about transitioning to the role? Did anything about the APN roles surprise you? In writing the paper this week it reminded me of why I chose to be an FNP. An FNP can choose to specialize with a certain population or they can choose to work in general primary care. I really would like to work in family care as I could educate about preventative care throughout all the stages of life. I started out my nursing career working in a sub-acute/long-term facility which taught me how important it is to manage diseases. In order to do this, I must have confidence in working autonomously. I need to create rapport with my patients, which I have learned working as a Registered Nurse (RN) at the bedside. Also, now that I work in pediatrics, I’ve realized that having proper care when going to a primary provider is very important. In order to flourish in my first year, if not given proper training, I must be bold enough to ask for it or move on to a different job opportunity. I must become a leader that can provide and advocate for holistic quality care. As for the other Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) roles, I had no idea what a Certified Nurse Specialist (CNS) was and what their job entailed. I think that it is a very interesting career choice because it allows you to research evidence-based practices and possibly change current practices in the job setting chosen.
