Question1

Tumelo is a ten-year-old learner with developmental impairments. The school where Tumelo is
enrolled is starting to be a full-service school. Tumelo’s teacher did not know how to include Tumelo
in the classroom activities. Tumelo and has never been to school before and show signs of being
afraid and disinterested in school. He is also isolated from the other learners.

1.1 Identify two teaching approaches that Tumelo’s teacher can use to accommodate Tumelo in
her class. 2X2 = 4

Answer:

Tumelo's teacher can use the following teaching approaches to accommodate Tumelo in her class:

1. Inclusive Education Approach: This approach involves integrating students with diverse needs
into regular classroom activities. Tumelo can benefit from individualized support and modified
instruction to match his developmental impairments. The teacher can work closely with special
education professionals to create a customized education plan that addresses Tumelo's specific
needs, such as providing additional visual aids, simplifying instructions, and allowing extra time
for tasks.

2. Peer Support Approach: This approach involves pairing Tumelo with a peer buddy from the class
who can offer social and academic support. Tumelo's peer buddy can help him feel more
comfortable in the classroom, assist with school routines, and encourage interaction with other
students. The peer support approach promotes social integration and can alleviate Tumelo's fear
and isolation in the classroom.
