This section comprises a number of compulsory questions. Complete all the
questions in this section by answering in the spaces that have been provided
below.
1. Your sports team needs advice on how they can maintain a healthy diet.
Whatadvice will you give the sports team? (5)
As a Physical Education and Sports Coach, I would recommend that the participants
maintain a healthy and balanced diet to optimize their athletic performance. It is important to
encourage them to consume a variety of nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables, fruits,
and fish to ensure they obtain an adequate amount of protein, carbohydrates, and essential
minerals.
In terms of protein, participants should be encouraged to consume lean meats, poultry, fish,
eggs, dairy products, and plant-based sources such as legumes and tofu. For
carbohydrates, they should consume whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, which provide
fibre, vitamins, and minerals that are essential for optimal performance.
It is recommended to limit the intake of fatty foods, fried foods, and sweets. Instead, the
participants should be advised to consume healthy fats from sources such as nuts, seeds,
avocado, and fatty fish. Processed and high-fat foods such as chips and chocolate should
be avoided, as they provide minimal nutritional value and can negatively affect athletic
performance.

OCT/NOV 2022
It is recommended to prepare meals using healthy cooking methods such as grilling,
steaming, or baking, as this helps to preserve the nutrient content of the food. Encourage
participants to consume "sport-friendly" foods such as wholesome meat and salad rolls,
warm soup, bread, pasta dishes, fruit juices, home-made muffins, and fresh fruit.
By following these dietary recommendations, the sports team can maintain a healthy diet
that supports their athletic performance and overall health.
I would advise the sports team to follow these guidelines for maintaining a healthy diet:
Balance your meals: Make sure each meal consists of a combination of protein,
carbohydrates, and healthy fats. This balance will provide the necessary energy to fuel your
workouts, build and repair muscle, and maintain overall health.
Eat whole foods: Choose whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean
proteins, and healthy fats over processed and packaged foods. These foods are nutrient-
dense and provide the vitamins and minerals needed for optimal health and performance.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day and during exercise to stay
hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks and limit caffeine and alcohol intake.
Time your meals: Eat meals and snacks at regular intervals throughout the day, and avoid
skipping meals. This will help regulate blood sugar levels and maintain energy levels.
Plan ahead: Plan and prepare meals in advance to ensure you have healthy options
available when you need them. This will also help you avoid unhealthy options when you're
short on time.
Listen to your body: Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness signals. Eat when
you're hungry and stop when you're full.
Seek professional help: Consider consulting a registered dietitian or sports nutritionist to
develop a personalized nutrition plan based on your individual needs and goals.
By following these guidelines, the sports team will be able to maintain a healthy and
balanced diet, which will support their physical activity and overall health.

As the physical educator at your school, the principal asks you to speak to the
parents at a meeting. You need to put together a strong argument against the use of
drugs in sport. Write down what you would say. (5)
As a physical educator, I believe that it is important to promote fair play and healthy
competition in sports. The use of drugs in sports goes against these principles and can have
serious consequences for athletes. Therefore, I would like to speak to the parents at this
meeting about the dangers of drug use in sports.
First and foremost, it is important to understand that using drugs to enhance performance is
cheating. It gives athletes an unfair advantage over their competitors and undermines the
integrity of sports. This is not only unfair to other athletes, but it also sets a bad example for
younger athletes who look up to them as role models.
Furthermore, the use of drugs in sports can have serious health consequences. Many
performance-enhancing drugs have negative side effects such as heart disease, liver
damage, and reproductive problems. Additionally, the use of drugs can lead to addiction,
which can have devastating effects on an athlete's life both on and off the field.
Moreover, drug use in sports is illegal and can have serious legal consequences. Athletes
who use drugs can face suspension, fines, and even criminal charges. This not only affects
their career in sports, but it can also impact their future prospects and opportunities.
Finally, as parents, we have a responsibility to teach our children about the importance of
fair play, honesty, and hard work. Using drugs to enhance performance goes against these
values and sends the message that winning is more important than playing by the rules.
In conclusion, the use of drugs in sports is detrimental to the athlete's health, sets a poor
example for younger athletes, is illegal, and undermines the principles of fair play and
healthy competition. As parents, we must encourage our children to compete honestly and
fairly, and to understand the negative consequences of drug use in sports. Thank you for
your attention.
