1. Attachment: Thulani's need for emotional connection faced significant

there were sources of support, notably his manager's concern and the
emotional refuge he found in a local church community.


2. Orientation: Thulani's need for guidance and a sense of direction was both
compromised and aided. The challenges he encountered during the lockdown,
along with the uncertainty surrounding his family's well-being, left him feeling
disoriented and highly anxious. However, the support he received from his
manager, the pastor, and the church community provided a valuable sense of
orientation and reassurance, assisting him in navigating his emotional and
psychological struggles.


3. Identity: Thulani's need for a sense of self and belonging was compromised
by the workplace stigma he experienced following his COVID-19 diagnosis.
The aloof and derisive behavior of his colleagues eroded his sense of identity
and belonging in his workplace, leading to feelings of isolation and anxiety.
Nonetheless, the discovery of a church community offered him a fresh sense
of identity, spirituality, and belonging.


4. Stimulation: Thulani's need for intellectual and emotional stimulation was
adversely affected. He started to suffer from frequent neck and back spasms
and experienced difficulty concentrating at work. His emotional turmoil and
trauma negatively impacted his cognitive and emotional stimulation. While his
manager suggested medication for sleep and anxiety, Thulani found an
