A small mass of tissue arising from the mucous membrane to project inward into the lumen of the bowel. Colostomy - ANS-Stoma is created in the bowel wall to allow drainage of bowel contents into a closed pouch hung outside the body (Sigmoid/Descending colon). Tubes - ANS-NG tube: inserted through nose into stomach (feedings or to drain stomach) Atresia - ANS-Underdeveloped. Congenital absence or abnormal closure of a normal anatomic opening. Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis - ANS-narrowing of pyloric canal in infants. Esophageal Strictures - ANS-an obstruction in the esophagus that causes swallowing difficulties. Esophageal Varices - ANS-Valsalva maneuver; varicose veins are abnormally lengthened and dilated. Occurs in patients with portal hypertension. Peptic Ulcer - ANS-An ulcer in the stomach; erosion of mucous membrane. Gastroenteritis - ANS-general grouping of a number of inflammatory disorders of the stomach and intestines. Ulcerative Colitis - ANS-inflammation of mucosal lining of rectum; begins in rectum. Crohn's Disease (Regional Enteritis) - ANS-Begins in terminal ileum and has a string sign appearance. Appendicitis - ANS-an inflammation of the appendix. Has a thumb print sign. Herniation - ANS-a protrusion of a loop of bowel through a small opening, usually in the abdominal wall.
