Course Description 10 credits This course builds upon previous nursing courses. Students focus on health promotion, therapeutic nursing interventions, and management of care for groups of clients across the life span. Students provide nursing care to geriatric clients, pediatric clients, and the childbearing family. Students continue to improve critical thinking with the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed for professional nursing practice. This course includes practicum in hospitals, community center, nursing laboratory for simulated clinical and the computer laboratory. Methods of Instruction 1. Critical thinking activities 2. A nursing student who passes didactic but fails clinical and/or lab will have a C recorded as the highest possible course grade. The student will not be allowed to continue to the next semester or to graduation. There is no rounding of grades on quizzes, exams and /or projects in the Nursing Program. Final grades will be determined by the formulas listed in each course syllabus. In order to maintain matriculation in the Nursing Program, all final grades must be 77% (C+) or higher. The course final grade will not be rounded. For example, a final grade of 76.50 will not be rounded to 77. A nursing course may also have additional requirements for passing the course, such as written papers or a clinical calculations exam. Students are expected to attend all scheduled class times. In respect for fellow students and the learning environment, students are expected to arrive on time. If a student is going to be late, they must enter the class without being disruptive. A student who is absent from class is responsible for any announcements and is responsible to make personal arrangements to assure the acquisition of materials presented. Enrichment sessions will not review basic concepts that were missed by students who did not attend class. A student’s trend of poor academic, lab, and clinical performance (tardiness, absence, late exams, and late assignments) are considered cumulative in academic performance. ( RCC Nursing Student Handbook). Attendance will be taken daily for academic trending purposes. Clinical and simulation attendance are mandatory. Students are required to meet their commitment to clinical practice and simulation on ALL assigned days. Refer to the current RCC Nursing Student Handbook for more information. Academic Honesty The policy regarding academic honesty is found in the current RCC Nursing Student Handbook. Please also review Appendix A. Course Communication Students are expected to check their RCC email at least once every weekday as this will be the major method of communication. For problems accessing email, contact IT Dept. Course materials will be available to students on MyRCC, Jenzabar, RCC email, Moodle or any other method faculty deems appropriate. . To receive Honors credit for this course, you must work with the instructor on completing an Honors project that deepens your interaction with the curriculum. If you are able to complete the project, deliver an oral presentation and earn a B or higher for the course, you will receive Honors designation on your transcript for the course. For more information on how to pursue an Honors project, contact Prof. Rhonda Gray, Honors Program Coordinator, at or visit contract by the third week of the semester. ATI Review Program It is expected that all students will be using the ATI supportive testing resources to enhance learning and application of theoretical material. These student-focused NCLEX style practice exam questions allow both review and remediation. Fees are involved that may be the responsibility of the student. See the RCC Nursing Student Handbook.
