Investigate careers in the sport and active leisure industry
Pass
For A.BP4, you must explain different careers in the sport and leisure industry: (Classroom
task: Jobs in the sport and active leisure industry)
For each industry (you should have 3 different ones) research one job role, which includes links
made to each of the three sectors (public, private and voluntary, where applicable). You must
explain the following:
● Background
● Essential elements of the job
● Responsibilities
● Work experience required
● Qualifications
● Personal attributes
● Examples of careers within this
Consider how these aspects of the job may change within the different sectors. E.g. Coaching in
the voluntary sector may only require a level 1 qualification and valid DBS check in place due to
the voluntary nature of the role.
However, in the public sector you are required to attend further CPD events such as
safeguarding training and have a certain amount of experience. Finally, in the private sector the
qualifications and experience needed may be much higher due to the clientele (professional
sport/high profile clients) that you will be working with.
You should also complete a performance profile skill audit for the job that you are most
interested in pursuing as a career. You should do this using a performance profile for the 10 key
skills and characteristics needed to be successful in this job role. (Classroom Job Profile)
For A.BP5, you must explain how safeguarding, protection policies and procedures are
implemented in the sport and active leisure industry. (Classroom Lesson 3 & Task sheet)
Employment protection:
You must explain what the following are and use examples from the 3 jobs you’ve chosen to
explain how they’re implemented:
● Health and safety at work legislation.
● Wages: national minimum wage & living wage.
● Contracts of employment - Permanent, fixed term & zero hours.
