SUS1501 ASSIGNMENT 6
SEMESTER 2 2023

All the preferable
aptions are answered!

, Tell us what your original answer to the question above was AND why; my
original answer was Why should we worry?
My original answer to the question was "c. While this is sad, polar bears aren't really very important to
my personal welfare which is my primary concern." I chose this answer because I believed that I should
prioritize my own personal welfare over the welfare of polar bears. I viewed the issue as one that didn't
directly impact me and therefore didn't require my immediate concern or action.

Tell us what your current answer is AND why;
However, upon further reflection and research, my current answer has changed to "e. I don't think polar
bears are all that important to human welfare. However, their plight is a symptom of climate change
which is a big problem to future human welfare." This change in answer is due to a deeper
understanding of the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the impact of climate change on the planet
as a whole. While polar bears may not have a direct impact on my personal welfare, their decline is
indicative of the larger issue of climate change, which will ultimately affect all living beings, including
humans.

“So where do I fit in in relation to this?" (Think back to the section on
virtue ethics);
In relation to this issue, I believe that I have a responsibility to consider the long-term consequences of
my actions and contribute to the preservation of the environment. This aligns with the principles of
virtue ethics, as it emphasizes the importance of cultivating virtues such as environmental stewardship,
empathy, and responsibility. By recognizing the intrinsic value of the natural world and the
interconnectedness of all living beings, I can strive to act in a way that promotes the well-being of both
humans and non-human species.

Write a comment on what you think about my preferred
answer AND of course explain why you think this.
Regarding your preferred answer of "a. Why should we worry?" I understand the sentiment behind it, as
it is a common reaction to prioritize one's own immediate welfare over the welfare of others. However, I
believe that this answer overlooks the broader implications of the issue. By disregarding the impact of
climate change on polar bears, we fail to address the root cause of their decline and perpetuate a cycle
of environmental degradation. Taking a more holistic approach and recognizing the intrinsic value of all
species can lead to more sustainable and ethical decision-making.
