Mahbub Rahman – Unit 13 – M2 – Analyse your contribution to the selection
process in a given situation
Introduction
For this task, I am going to carry out a self-analysis of what I done to prepare for the
interview (pre-interview), the interview itself, and post-interview.
Pre-interview
WWW: Before the interview, I was well-prepared. I researched the possible questions that
could come up in the interview and thought of solid answers to give if I were to be asked
those questions. I also printed out a copy of my CV to give to the interviewers at the
interview just in case it was needed. Another thing I done to prepare for the interview was
make sure all other necessary documents were given to the employers and were filled with
accurate information. I also practiced my handshake before the interview, so I could make a
strong first impression. What also went well was from the interviewers perspective is that
the group and I had prepared questions that were relevant to the job, and also allowed the
interviewers to gain an understanding of the interviewee’s character through personalised
questions which were based on the candidate’s application form and CV. We also made sure
that the documents we made for the task all had a consistent colour scheme, so it looked
more formal which meant candidates would take it more seriously.
EBI: I could have prepared smarter clothes to wear to the interview, e.g. a shirt and tie. I
also could have filled out the application form with neater handwriting, which would make it
easier for the employer to read. Another thing that could have been better from the
interviewer’s perspective was if the whole group contributed more to making the questions,
as it would offer a greater range of questions from people of different personalities,
allowing for more diversity. This prevents interviewer bias. Also, the selection criteria
should have been more detailed, which would make it more likely for the best candidate to
be recruited who is more suitable for the job.
During the interview
WWW: During the interview, I made sure that my body language did not make me look
nervous or timid, so I kept my hands closed together in order to avoid using too many hand
gestures and to refrain from fidgeting too much. I also made sure I kept good eye contact.
Another thing that went well during the interview was my answering to the questions, as I
had solid answers and said them in a clear and polite manner, not portraying my character
as arrogant. Another thing that went well was that I had a firm handshake at the beginning
of the interview, making a strong first impression and portraying myself as a confident
individual. One thing that went well as an interviewer was that the interview plan wasn’t
