David Newton Unit 19 P4 & P5
Working effectively in a team
For our Welsh Baccalaureate we had to make a team composed of a minimum of three members.
Which our team had. After this we then had to organise ourselves in certain roles that we would be
most effective in. I was chosen as team leader due to the Belbin test as we compared each other’s to
see who was best suited.
I did the Belbin test twice to increase the accuracy and reliability. Both times I got an explorer and
below the picture is a description of an ‘Explorer’. Underneath I have been told that I am
investigative and very curious which is definitely what I am. Also I like to improvise if I come across a
problem as it is more enjoyable and less restrictive. Also from the test I am told that my weaknesses
were analysing work. I was chosen as the team leader as my Belbin test was a lot more suited to that
role as the other members were. When choosing the leader we did have conflict because some
people didn’t agree with each other so we had 1-2 meeting where we had no leader and we would
see who was standing out in the group as having more of a natural leadership trait, and that helped
us come to the decision that I was.
As the team leader I had to organise team goals aims and objectives and team minutes. While we
would do the minutes we often came across a conflict of ideas and opinions so to resolve this as you
can see in the picture on the left we wrote down everything that was said so that we would then
have another meeting so that we could discuss what was the best thing to do and a reason behind
why we chose it. This was working effectively as I was managing to set up regular meetings as we
were all good friends so it was easy to get to each other. This was very effective as it meant we were
organised each lesson and were often ahead of others.
