Secondary Colors Using pigments or paint to create purple, green and orange - made by combining equal amounts (50/50) of two primary colors. Tertiary Colors Colors located between primary and secondary colors on the color wheel, created by mixing any adjacent primary and secondary color. Complimentary Colors colors opposite on the color wheel. If you mix two complimentary colors, the mixed color will be dull, but if you put two complimentary colors next to each other they will intensify each other. Analogous Colors colors that are side by side on the color wheel. Example: yellow-orange, orange, red-orange. Monochromatic A work of art with only one color. One color plus tints and shades. Neutral Colors White, black and gray (sometimes brown). Used to make tints and shades but do not affect hue. Warm colors Colors that we associate with fire, they include reds, yellows, and oranges. Cool colors Colors associated with plants, water, and ice (ex: blues, purples, and greens). Tints Adding white to a color Shades Obtained by adding black to a hue One Point Linear Perspective Lines are drawn on the picture plane in such a way as to represent parallel lines receding to a single point on the viewer's horizon (vanishing point Two Point Linear Perspective Used when looking directly at the front corner of a box, or looking down both sides of a building. 2 vanishing points Hatching Creating tonal or shading effects with closely spaced parallel lines Cross-hatching a shading technique in which density and overlapping of crossing lines is used to create a range of value. Stippling Dots spaced close or far apart to suggest darker or lighter areas Blending smoothly drawing dark values little by little by pressing harder on the drawing medium.
