Dimensions of Human Sexuality
Human sexuality encompasses knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, values, and behaviors, and is influenced by ethical, spiritual, cultural, and moral concerns. The three dimensions of sexuality are biological, sociocultural, and psychological. Sexual health involves enjoying and expressing sexuality free from risks, while positive sexuality is a natural and healthy aspect of human life. Cultural factors that make positive sexuality difficult include essentialism and social constructionism. The dimensions of human sexuality guide learning, understanding, and interpreting of sexuality issues, including conception and contraception, gender roles, and the sexual revolution. Decision-making models and critical thinking are important in making responsible choices and gaining communication skills.
