M1 Unit 4

Verbal

Examples of verbal communication can include:

 Face to face
 Telephone
 Meetings
 Discussions
 Presentations

Verbal communication is a very common type of communication and can be used for several
purposes. LTM will use verbal communication through meetings and discussions to talk about
information internally in the business for things such as updates on their events or about the
companies finance. This can also be used externally for LTM, usually through things such as phone
calls to customers when they are wanting to book a visit or want to know some information.

Verbal communication is very important for LTM to use externally as it is used to inform the public
about what is going on at the museum and plans for the future in the business. The HR department
are held responsible for making sure that verbal communication is achieved successfully internally
between staff and this it is being used effectively to the public. It would also be commonly used in
the finance department of the LTM as they would need to update other staff on the sales and the
financial information.

Face to face is a reliable type of verbal communication as the people involved are able to ask
questions and make sure that the information has been transferred with detail and there is no
confusion. Face to face would be carried out between employees and with staff to customers and
suppliers.

Verbal communication can be done through a phone call, this would be used commonly externally as
there would be phone calls between staff at the LTM and customers, as well as talking to other
businesses, suppliers and government departments.

Advantages:

 Very accurate and reliable for LTM to use
 Are able to build a relationship with the customers and can make sure they have answered
anything correctly and that the customer understands, meaning LTM will have stronger
relationships with their customers and be able to make sure that everything is answered
correctly
 More personal way of communication so LTM can build better relationships within the
organisation
 LTM is able to talk to people outside of the business that are a long distance away through
phone calls and can talk in detail meaning it saves costs for travel saving LTM money

Disadvantages:

 Time consuming for LTM, may take longer than the business needs and could slow people
down and not get as much work done as they need
