Assignment Questions:
Question 1
1.1 Proactive Policing (4):
Proactive policing refers to a strategy where law enforcement personnel anticipate
and prevent criminal activities before they occur. This involves analysing trends,
identifying potential hotspots, and implementing preventive measures. For example,
law enforcement officers might patrol areas with a history of high crime rates during
peak hours to deter criminal behaviour through their visible presence.
1.2 Reactive Policing (4):
Reactive policing involves responding to incidents after they have occurred. Law
enforcement personnel react to emergency calls, reports, or complaints from the
community. For instance, when a citizen calls the authorities to report a burglary in
progress, law enforcement officers promptly respond to the scene to address the
situation and apprehend the suspects.
1.3 Improving Service Delivery (5):
As a law enforcement officer, several actions can enhance service delivery to the
community. Effective communication with residents, understanding their concerns,
and addressing their needs promptly are crucial. Establishing community
engagement programs, such as neighbourhood watch groups and town hall
meetings, fosters trust and collaboration. Training in cultural sensitivity and de-
escalation techniques ensures respectful interactions.
