Studied is own children, but because he was very methodical it's very reliable. According to Piaget, what is intelligence? - ANS-"Intelligence is adaptation to the environment" -Intelligent people are people who adapt to their environment Sensorimotor - ANS-(birth to approximately 2 years of age): Infants understand their world through their senses and their motor or physical actions on that world Pre-operational - ANS-(approximately 2 to 7 years of age): Mental operations are present and symbolic, but children's thinking is illogical. For example they start talking. Concrete operational - ANS-(approximately 7 to 11 years of age):Children's thinking becomes more logical but children still lack the ability to think abstractly or hypothetically. Think concrete because it's not abstractly. Formal operational - ANS-(approximately 11 to 15 years of age): Mature adult-like thought emerges so children can think abstractly, and form and test hypotheses. Functional invariants - ANS-Cognitive or intellectual functions that do not change during development. Adult and children use. adaption - ANS-Assimilation and accommodation Assimilation - ANS-relating info that they already have to new info. Accommodation - ANS-Create new categories for certain types of information, use old information as a basis, but don't necessarily know much about the new info. e.g. Kid says, that's a robin, parent says, no that's a butterfly. Equilibration - ANS-State of cognitive balance achieved through assimilating and/or accommodating new experiences.
