T - Telephone Teaching Course_ Assignment on Business Student Business English Student Level: Pre-Intermediate Topic: Politely Interrupting on the Telephone Before: Send the student a scenario in which a client is on the phone speaking too fast, mumbling, and demanding a project be completed in an earlier time than discussed. Ask the student what might be the reason(s) he/she might interrupt or interject the client. During: Activity 1: 10 mins After initial pleasantries, ask the students about the scenario you sent them and their answer to what reasons might there be to interrupt the client on the phone. Help the student as needed, reasons are: To ask a question or clarification, to share opinions, giving out information or being interrupted by something else. Add in another reason to interrupt outside of the given scenario (Joining conversation). Ask the student how he would interrupt a customer during the conversation. Make a list of the phrases he/she produces. Activity 2: 10 mins Roleplay with the student, Teacher is the customer while the student plays his role and have him/her use the following phrases below: - Excuse me (please talk slowly/please slow down) -May I interrupt you for a moment? -Excuse me, please hold on -One moment, If I may add -I’m sorry to interrupt -May I interject? Assist the student with the pronunciation
