NCTRC ExamLeisure Ability Model (LAM) Has three major parts: *Functional intervention which deals with improving functional ability. *Leisure Education focuses on the client gaining leisure-related attitudes, knowledge, and skills. *Recreation participation deals with structured activities that give the client the opportunity to practice new skills while enjoying a recreation experience. Therapeutic Recreation Service Delivery Model **The mission of this model is to produce outcomes relating to functional capacities, to health status, and ultimately to the enhancement of the quality of life. **Four components make up the model: Diagnosis/needs assessment Treatment/rehabilitation Education Prevention/health promotion Health Protection/Health Promotion Model Has three major parts: *Prescriptive Activities *Recreation *Leisure What is the main process used by Recreational Therapists? APIE Assessment Planning Implementation Evaluation Assessment *This is the first phase in the APIE process. It is completed in the interview where the CTRS gathers information about the client, clarify items not understood, and observe the client's condition and behavior. *A sound assessment identifies the client's health status, needs, and strengths. In doing this, the assessment provides directions for the planning phase by developing pertinent data about the client. Assessment is a critical Dimension because, invalid data on which to base TR interventions, maybe lost in effecting treatment and Rehabilitation programs. *TR specialist gathers, organizes, and analyzes assessment data. What kind of information are we after in an assessment? *Functional data (what can they do)- Physical/cognitive/emotional/social functioning; *Attitudinal data (thoughts and feelings)- Patient's goals; patients motivation level *Nominal data/information (categories)- Name/age/origin/service history/education/ethnic background; Leisure interest; Family History; Diagnosis (Dx); social support group/income *We try to stay objective, but sometimes we go into subjective. *Objective data/information- (observe, not as open to interpretation) ie: can he grasp the pen/pencil. *Subjective data/information- (relies on interpretation) it is not readily observable
