Lesson 1 – Presentation Skills
08-02-2023

Why do we give presentations?
We want the audience to receive and remember the information we give.

What makes a presentation effective?
- An attention grabber or icebreaker.
- Passion and authenticity.
- Interaction with the audience.
- Eye contact with audience.
- Expressive body language.
- A clear structure.
- Focusing on a theme.
- Language suitable for audience.
- Use of photographs, illustrations and/or animations. (Instead of long texts.)
- Storytelling, anecdotes.
- Repetition.
- Use of jokes.
- A memorable ending.
- A call to action. (“When you return to work/school, please think/look about this”,
spread the message.)

Parts of a presentation: (The presentation for this course is about 7-9 minutes long.)
1. Introduction (15% of time)
2. The body (75% of time)
3. Conclusion (10% of time)

Introduction: (About 1 to 1,5 minutes.)
- Most important part.
- Sets tone for the presentation.
- Grab the audience’s attention.
1. Capture the attention. (For example, a question to the audience, and give them
enough time to think about it. Count to 10).
Other examples: Statement that provokes a reaction, quote, story, anecdote,
demonstration which proves your point, or consider giving around an object).
2. Briefly introduce yourself.
3. State what your presentation will be about.

Body: (About 5,25 to 6,75 minutes.)
