Fernand - simple man from fishing town, in love with his cousin (yikes), mails letter that gets Dantes arrested, gets drafted into bonapartist army, deserts and joins royalist side, give large sum of money by Ali Pacha, becomes millionaire and Count de Marseilles, marries Mercedes and has son Albert. Villefort - the deputy public prosecutor who sentenced Dantes to his time in prison, tries to distance himself from his bonapartist father, Noirtier Morrel - Owner of the Pharaon, tries to get Dantes out of prison, tries to kill himself after business fails, Dantes saves him. Mercedes - Dantes' fiance, marries Fernand, has son named Albert, becomes a countess, still in love with Dantes. Abbe Faria - Dantes' neighbor in prison, teaches him, passes on the Spada family fortune to Dantes, dies in the Chateau d'If. the Englishman - the facade Dantes uses when visiting Morrel, head clerk at Thomas and French of Rome Italian Priest - the facade Dantes uses when visiting Caderousse Jacopo - A smuggler on the Jeune-Amelie, helps Dantes climb aboard the ship. when Jacopo proves his selfless loyalty, Dantès rewards him by buying the poor man his own ship and crew. Caderousse - A lazy, drunk, and greedy man, who at the very beginning of the novel is a friend of Dantes; knew about what Danglars and Fernand were doing, doesn't speak up, becomes the unfortunate innkeeper of a small inn, located in the South of France between Bellegarde and Beaucaire. has been the innkeeper for the past eight years, gives Dantes information for a diamond.
