women that can significantly impact the quality of their life physically, socially, and emotionally.
AUB is an all-encompassing term referring to any uterine bleeding that is irregular in amount,
frequency, duration, or timing (Schuiling and Likis, 2017). The purpose of this paper is to
discuss a female patient seen during this clinical and write a comprehensive assessment that
includes details of the patient’s background, medical history, physical exam, labs and
diagnostics, diagnosis, treatment and management plan, as well as education strategies and
follow-up care.
Introduction
AUB affects 14-25% of women in the reproductive age group and the most common
reason women seek health care (Kadwa, 2018). There are physiological, pathological, and
pharmacological causes of AUB. With AUB there is a disruption in the woman’s normal
menstrual pattern and is unpredictable from heavy to light flow and prolonged or random.
Complication of pregnancy is the most common cause of change in the woman’s established
menstrual bleeding. AUB should be suspected in patients with unpredictable or episodic heavy
or light bleeding despite a normal pelvic examination (Behera, 2018).
