How the Other Half Lives
How the Other Half Lives Immigration, industrialization, and urbanization have had a huge impact on the American society. Industrialization brought about increased employment, which consequently raises the living standards of people living in America. Tremendous immigration was witnessed shortly after the end of the war in 1812, and as a result, a city that did not have a population of more than 100,000 people saw a bulging population in less than 35 years (Riis, 4). Much of this growth has been attributed to the increased industrialization that was booming during the time. As business increased, there was more need for increased housing plans to shelter the massive number of employees who flocked the city every day, searching for better lives. These activities have had their benefits; however, they had more negative impacts than good. The book "How the Other Half Lives sheds light on these negative effects on society, such as poor housing construction and increased rent compared to the small area of living. It also offers some solutions that could be implemented to fix the problem.
