air quality due to absence of vehicles and hence maintains good climate by reducing vehicular
pollution. It can have community centers where people can gather and mingle as part of their
daily activities. It offers access to green space and parks.
But this healthy community design may act in opposition to the other principles as - the parks
and recreational facilities that are in poor condition. Some parks are also seen as unsafe, viewed
as places where drugs are death and crimes are committed. Parks and other recreational facilities
may be difficult to reach using certain types of transportation. Even if a facility is near one\'s
residence, if street crossing near the facility are hazardous or if these are few sidewalks along the
street leding to the facility, a person may not be able to safely reach the facility on foot or by
