Iron Curtain - This was a border between the Soviet Union (Communist) and other democratic countries in Europe. This prevented any sort of transportation of people, goods, and information to cross those lines. Satellite Nations - These nationals were alliances between the Soviet Union and other countries to help control the potential threats from the west. Containment - Kennan proposed what became basic American policy throughout the Cold War: "a long-term, patient but firm and vigilant containment of Russian expansive tendencies." In Kennan's opinion, the Soviet system had major economic and political weaknesses. Truman Doctrine - Truman established that the United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from communist nations. Marshall Plan - The U.S. pumped billions of dollars into Western Europe to help struggling economies.
