Question 2
2.1 Three components of Grade R daily programme.
Teacher guided activities.
There are 3 subject in Grade R teaching. The teacher plans the daily programme to cover all
3 subject which includes : Language, Life skills, and Mathematics throughout the day. The
activities provides focus on the learners capabilities and understanding. The teacher records
and keeps time for each activities. On the language activities the teacher must be able to
engage learners to obtain and expand their language skills and be able to express their
thoughts and opinions by asking questions which will assist the teacher to assess the
understanding of the learner and help learner to gain more understanding of the lesson
learned.
For example story telling, children concentrate on stories because of the curiosity of whats
going to happen next, they listen and have an open mind of the story, as the story goes the
learner will be able to ask a question of “Then what happened next” or whats in the interest of
the story to get a better understanding of whats been read/told. On Life skills the activity may
be of song and movement of the 5 senses, the learners will be able to express themselves
through singing and touching movements to show their understanding of what the 5 senses
are. In Mathematics the activity can be of building number sense, in this activity the teacher
will be able to identify the learners understanding and help the learner if she/he is struggling.
The main focus of the three subjects is to prepare the learner for grade1 with an
understanding of the basic skills and understanding.
